About Us
Mission Statement
The Mission of T.A.I.L.S. is to serve the community as a charitable organization that promotes spay/neutering of animals and provides financial support to humane organizations and individuals in pursuit of this goal. We are dedicated to vigorously promoting and educating the community about the importance of spay/neuter to reduce, and eventually eliminate, the killing of unwanted dogs, cats, and other animals.
History
T.A.I.L.S. began by a group of animal shelter volunteers who got together and started brainstorming about how to really make an impact - on a broad scale - about ending dog and cat euthanasia. The answer we came up with? Form a group which specifically highlights the importance of spay/neutering - in other words: stop the flow of animals into the shelters. It seemed so simple - yet we realized there wasn't a group in our area who did this - there were great no-kill shelters - but nobody to stand up, highlight the need and actually help fund what all of us knew was such a critical means to the end: spaying and neutering. And thus TAILS was born. Shortly after organizing, TAILS received our 501(c)3 (tax exempt) status in November 2001 and has been funding and promoting the spay/neuter of pet animals ever since. We are an all volunteer organization, based in Westport, CT, who tirelessly works towards the day we live in a "zero kill" world.
